What about social inclusion, employment, stable housing, poverty, stigma? isn’t the model too intrapersonal?
Stated simply, this is a model of psychological recovery for people living with and beyond mental illness. The focus of the model is intrapersonal, particularly on issues of the self and its development. Social inclusion, employment, housing and poverty are of course important to issues of mental health recovery – however, the focus of this approach is internal resources. The coherence of the model, and the fact that it is proving fertile in terms of measurement is due to the fact that it has been circumscribed about what is being measured. The claim is not that this is a comprehensive model of all things that facilitate recovery, rather, it includes ways of understanding the psychological process of that journey.
