Michael Lee on yoga for men:
“As a male yoga therapist using a body-mind approach, I have worked with many men over the years and continue to find that some of my deepest sessions have been with my male clients.

“The Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy process is basically a feminine one. It is feminine insofar as it proceeds from the unknown to the known. It is nonlinear. It doesn’t have a finite end or have to come to completion. It is random rather than following a set pattern. It requires more loving presence than planned action. As a result, it can sometimes get “messy.” The process works from the inside out—honoring that which lies within—the dark places as well as the light.
“Now, for most men this is a strange way to work at first. Male processes usually go from the known to the unknown; are linear; get results; and follow a set and hopefully predictable pattern. And so it may seem strange, but once they get into it, men really like and appreciate the feminine process. After all, this process is not totally unknown to them. At a cellular level, it is familiar, taking them back to the womb and early infancy. It also offers men a respite from being engaged with the world—warriors ready for battle. Instead, men can now surrender to the feminine, the mystery of life, and that part of all of us that lies hidden until we are ready to
engage life by letting go.

“Once men are willing to let go and engage the process, things tend to happen very quickly and easily. They embark on a journey they never could have imagined.”
