Yoga for Better Urinary and Prostate Health
At some point in their lives, many men experience urinary bladder problems, particularly as they approach middle age. Many men also experience difficulties with the prostate gland—an enlarged prostate gland, prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland) and prostate cancer are some of the leading health concerns of today’s man. Prostate cancer is now so widespread that it is estimated that up to one-fifth of American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives.4 Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer among men, following skin cancer. While prostate cancer can be a deadly disease, modern medicine is making treatment advances. Every man is strongly encouraged to consult with his medical doctor regarding ongoing screening tests for prostate cancer.
Prevention is the best way for a man to avoid having difficulties with the urinary tract and prostate gland. Good diet, exercise, hygiene, and frequent ejaculation are some of the measures that can help keep your urogenital system in top health. In addition, there are specific yoga postures that can help to improve the circulation and range of motion in the pelvic girdle, which has a beneficial health effect on all the organs and glands that are housed there—for men, in particular, the urinary tract, penis, and prostate gland. In addition, a special yogic energy lock that contracts the area of the pelvic floor can help strengthen the muscles that are located there and promote a healthy bladder and prostate. Some yoga asanas that can help you to open your pelvis and groin area, as well as a yogic lock and exercise for the pelvic floor, are included here. Try them out as you give yourself an internal as well as an external workout!
