Basic Assumptions of a Recovery-Focused Mental Health System
The process of recovery has not been researched. The vagaries of recovery make it a mysterious process, a mostly subjective process begging to be attended to and understood.
People with severe disabilities (including psychiatric disabilities) have helped us glimpse the process through their words and actions (Weisburd, 1992). In addition, all of us have directly experienced the recovery process in reaction to life’s catastrophes. Based on information gained from the above, a series of assumptions about recovery can be identified.
