Like any tool used incorrectly, it could do harm. However, one practical purpose of the stage model of psychological recovery is to show consumers that there is a pathway towards recovery, based on previous people’s experience. The approach has been developed from stories of people living with illness and refined in consultation with a range of consumers. Many consumers have provided input into this work.
The measures developed to date, as outlined in Chapter 9, are rated by consumers rather than professionals.
