Eagle Pose
Garudasana: Eagle Pose

Garudasana, or “Eagle Pose,” is a traditional yoga pose that you can use to help increase your sexual energy. To prepare for Eagle Pose, assume an erect standing position as in Mountain Pose (see Fig. YPS.1a, page 115). Your feet are parallel to one another and about hip-width apart. Shift your weight to your left leg for support as you lift up your right leg. Lift and wrap the right thigh over the left thigh and hook the right foot or toes behind the left calf.

If necessary, use your hands to help hook your right leg into position. If this is too challenging, then simply lift and wrap your right thigh over the left thigh and let your right foot and toes hang out to the side of your left leg.

As you perform Eagle Pose, you will be forming a slight crouching position as your abdomen moves back and your hips move forward. Now cross the elbows in front of you with the elbow of your left arm crossing over the inside crease of the elbow of your right arm. Double-cross your
arms so that you can press your palms together and lift your elbows to shoulder height so that the upper arms are parallel to the floor and your forearms are perpendicular to the floor. If you can, fold forward so that your arms are in front of your knees and your forearms extend beyond your legs to form a 90-degree angle to the floor (see Fig. 14.2). Hold this position for several breaths if you are a beginner and for longer if you are more experienced. To come out of the position, slowly unwrap your arms, then your legs, and return to Mountain Pose, standing erect with your feet parallel to one another and inside edges touching.

Now prepare to repeat Eagle Pose on the other side of your body. Once you have performed Eagle Pose on both sides of the body, take a moment to be mindful of how you feel. Do you feel any differently, especially in the groin, pelvis, and hip areas?

Eagle Pose is one of the most challenging postures in Yoga for Men. The model illustrating this pose is especially accomplished. Do whatever you can and whatever feels comfortable.

If you find Eagle Pose difficult to maintain on the first few tries, don’t be discouraged. With regular practice, you will get better. You may feel a bit like a human pretzel doing this particular yoga posture, but the twisting and strengthening of the central core area of your body can result in beneficial results not only for your sex life, but also for your entire being.
