Enduring the loss |
Enduring the loss
This section presented Enduring the loss as the first stage of the processes of the basic social psychological process, Hoping for a better life. The stage is characterized by the BSSP of detaching which had five themes: losing a significant adult, resenting the loss, unrelenting grief, unremitting loneliness, and experiencing vulnerability. Sub themes of each of the themes were presented. Youth coped with their significant losses, parental abandonment, death, divorce and incarceration, by using the basic social structural process of detaching. During this detaching process, youth experienced grief, loneliness,
and vulnerability which were externalized to illegal behaviors. These behaviors are presented next in Stage Two: Persisting the dissension.
