Yoga Courses, Workshops, and Retreats |
Yoga Courses, Workshops, and Retreats
One excellent way to explore yoga is to enroll in a short course or workshop in yoga.
This way, you can begin or strengthen your yoga practice by working in an extended
fashion under competent supervision. Many of the institutes representing major styles of yoga, such as the Himalayan Institute, Integral Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, and Sivananda Yoga offer series of courses in yoga, graded to different levels of practitioners (for instance, Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced practitioners). Many yoga institutes and studios also offer intensive workshops in a particular aspect of yoga practice, such as a weekend afternoon workshop on how to achieve the perfect headstand.
Another way to immerse yourself intensively in yoga is to attend a yoga workshop or
retreat that spans several days. If you attend a retreat in a picturesque setting, you can
combine your practice of yoga with a bit of vacation spent in the company of other individuals who perhaps share interests similar to your own. If you travel to a more distant location, your experience can be even more exotic and mind-expanding.
Many of the yoga institutes and associations listed throughout Yoga for Men offer workshops and retreats. If you are interested in experiencing a particular style of yoga, check with an association that is affiliated with that style. In addition to the major yoga associations, the following organizations offer workshops and retreats in yoga:
Elat Chayyim offers courses in meditation and yoga within a Jewish spiritual environment.
Recent representative samplings of retreat courses offered include “Torah Yoga for
Healing and Transformation” and “Yoga and Meditation: Breathing into Balance.” Of special interest to readers of Yoga for Men, it offers programs such as “Jewish Men’s Retreat.”
