Steps Along the Journey of Recovery
As we mentioned earlier, a number of qualitative studies identified steps, phases or stages in the recovery process. We revisited these in order to gain a deeper understanding of the definition and description of steps or stages identified in each study. Parallels in the themes of each step or stage were sought which could be synthesized into a model of recovery that would lend itself to operationalization.
The articles we reviewed (see Appendix 2.B) for descriptions of steps, phases or stages of recovery were: Davidson and Strauss (1992), Baxter and Diehl, (1998), Pettie and Triolo (1999), Young and Ensing (1999) and Spaniol et al. (2002).
